I Will Wear It More Than Once..You Should Too - Or Let Me Recreate Its Purpose!
February 06, 2020
I read a recent report with the headline:
Duchess Catherine glimmers in a rare red carpet appearance,
wearing a heavenly recycled Alexander McQueen gown
"The move was clearly well thought out by the Duchess and her team of stylists - the BAFTA association made a pointed promise this year to be more sustainable, and to encourage sustainability with its members."
Locally and globally I hope that now as we've stepped into 2020, women worldwide should not be pressured to always wear something new all the time.
I've always heard Indian women of all ages say that a saree is hardly worn more than once or twice. Why? Because the same crowd shouldn't see you in it twice and also because the pictures will be uploaded all over social media platforms, so a larger audience than the particular event would have seen you in that saree. *Email journalist2jabber@gmail.com for more details.
According to a 2017 textile economy report by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, clothing represents more than 60% of the total fabric used globally. It is estimated that more than half of fast fashion produced is disposed of under a year.
ONE PERSON CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
I've started with the most sensible step of having only what I'm extremely comfortable in and will frequently wear in my wardrobe and stopped the compulsory monthly shopping spree for new clothes! And of course the old school practice to hand me down is popular for me and my family again! ❤️
If u fancy giving your old sarees new life, let's hook up and I'll convert them into tote bags, pillows or casual tops! 🌎
WHY WE SHOULD BE MORE RESPONSIBLE WITH OUR CLOTHES?
- Malaysians dumped a mind blowing 195,300 tonnes of fabric waste in latest research published in 2018, – the weight of 19 Eiffel Towers put together.
- A total of more than 75% of fabric waste could be reused, recycled or processed to become solid fuel.
- According to a study, SWCorp Malaysia (the agency tasked with regulating the management of solid waste and public cleansing in Malaysia) landfills had doubled since 2012, from 2.8% to 6.3% in 2018.
- Fabric waste thrown in 2018 accounted for about 6.3% of the total 3.1 million tonnes of solid waste filling up landfills.
- SWCorp only managed to separately collect and save less than 1% of fabric waste from ending up in landfills.
