VENPA is Kavi Nanthan’s 7th directorial product. He has put together a PSA, an Ad and 4 Short films, before giving Malaysian fans Venpa.
Venpa revolves around Thenavan, the main character and what made him so indecisive.
According to the upcoming movie maker, Kayalvizhi,
Kathiravan and Malini Kathai Enna Aachi, a trilogy, made him a familiar name
among the local audience.
“These 3 films gave me a break and widen my network in the film industry
in Malaysia,” he said in a short interview.
Asked how Venpa came about, Kavi said he had his mind fixed on making a
romantic film after Malini Kathai Enna Aachi.
“But I wasn’t sure of the story, I wanted it as subtle as possible, but
be something that will engage with the general audience as a whole. Hence, I
took a very common idea of love story which happens around us, but narrate it
in a very interesting way,” he said.
“I was so confident it’ll reach the audience, from the reaction people
gave after listening to the script. So from there it took off,” he added.
According to Kavi, Venpa became huge after Karthik Shamalan came into
the picture.
“I always refer to him if I had doubts. So through him I got all the
assistance needed to give a first class short film. That’s how I got Ravyn as
my DOP.”
He added that a thorough planning went into promotional works, from
first look poster, to give the best.
“The response was super good. The film went even bigger when Varmman Elangkovan
agreed to do music for us. And then we planned to put the teaser together,” he
said.
He said the visuals from Ravyn Manogaran, with Varmman’s soulful music
made the teaser phenomenal.
Queried about the release date, Kavi Nanthan said he was still finalizing
it as there were big plans for Venpa.
“I’m still working on the release date, as I’m planning to send this to
film festivals. If the festival plan works I will announce the public screening
and subsequently online release,” he shared.
