Obama and Anthony Bourdain sitting on tiny plastic stools, a common feature of Vietnamese street restaurants |
US President Barack Obama sat down for a $6 meal with celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain and the internet is abuzz with Bun Cha talks!
The chef, known for his love of adventurous street food, gave his followers a teaser to an upcoming show, featuring the dinner date in a series of tweets and an Instagram post.
Streets surrounding Bun Cha Huong Lien eatery was closed down by the US Secret Service and local police on Monday evening.
The dinner was planned as part of Obama’s historic week-long Asian trip, his 10th time visiting the region since he took office in 2008. The trip includes stops in Vietnam and Japan.
Obama is set to visit to Hiroshima on Friday, making him the first American president to visit the city since the US dropped an atomic bomb there in 1945 at the end of World War II.
His chopstick skill is however no surprise, as the president lived in Thailand with his mother and stepfather for some time during his childhood.
As I wondering what they chatted about:
According to a CNN spokesman in a news report, the dinner and conversation with Barack Obama and Anthony Bourdain will air on CNN’s Parts Unknown this September.
What's Bun Cha?
A top choice lunchtime meal in the capital. Small patties of seasoned pork and slices of marinated pork belly grilled over a charcoal fire, served with a large bowl of a fish sauce-heavy broth, a basket of herbs and a helping of rice noodles. Often comes with fried crab spring rolls.
I found it weird though that other diner were oblivious to the US president in their midst with a celebrity chef, security and film crew, Then watched the video and you know they've been told to focus on their food.
A large crowd had also gathered outside the restaurant. As Obama exited, he tooked a few minutes to acknowledge the group who were waiting to catch a glimpse of him, before leaving.
Watch Obama walked out after having a bowl of Bun Cha and hear the crowd roar!

Unlike everyone else, I was just wondering what happens to the stool, will it get the Kabali chair sacred treatment?
Rajinikanth sat on a chair in Malaysia & this happened…
The owner of Restaurant Rani Vilas in Batu Caves wrapped up a chair Superstar Rajinikanth sat on when he visited the restaurant during the shoot of Kabali in Malaysia recently.
I bet if in Malaysia, that short stool would have reached greater heights! So much win in a reply to my status on Facebook!
