An attack on one of us, is an attack on all of us...

Last night, a former boss who is now with The Malaysian Insider was among the portal editors detained in an attempt to silence the media.

Their arrest was over an article claiming that the Council of Rulers had rejected the proposed amendments to the Shariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1965 to allow for hudud law.

Held overnight, the trio The Malaysian Insider’s managing editor Lionel Morais, its Bahasa Malaysia news editor Amin Shah Iskandar and its Bahasa Malaysia features and analysis editor Zulkifli Sulong are expected to be released today, anytime now.

The portal’s chief executive officer and editor Jahabar Sadiq and The Edge publisher Ho Kay Tat are expected to stay overnight, with their remand hearing scheduled for tomorrow.

Members of the press and public are to hold a vigil wearing yellow ribbons pins to show support for press freedom and in a call to release the two.

Yellow ribbons made to be given out

             Waiting for the release

It was supposed to be at 7pm, but we are still waiting, it's 8.45pm now. About 100 members of the press and public armed with yellow ribbons on their chest.

How I say hundred? Because I made and gave out all 60 yellow ribbon pins and candles. Many of course, brought their own.

The drizzle did not break the crowd

It was good to see media friends from various publications gathering to show their support.
